DachArt – Manuel Skirl

The entrance pavilion of the Wien Museum becomes a stage for street art -- or for roof art, to be more precise. Every year, a different artist uses the area as a canvas, a bit like the annual Roof Garden Commission at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. The work can only be seen from above - looking down from from the museum's terrace. 

Viennese street artist Skirl, renown for his work across town as well as in the city's galleries, is first. Having gotten his start in the graffiti scene, Skirl  developed an unmistakable style influenced by his training as an engraver. His organic structures of black and blue lines usually give rise to abstract, painterly forms. For the pavilion's roof, he created a motif inspired by the museum's location on Karlsplatz. 
 

The opening will be celebrated with a terrace party with DJ on Friday, June 28 from 5 pm.
