Mag. Dr. Michaela Kronberger

Biography

Born in Salzburg in 1964; studied archaeology and art history in Salzburg and Vienna, doctorate 2003; 1991–1997 research assistant at the Österreichisches Archäologisches Institut (Austrian Archaeological Institute, OeAI); 1997–2002 research assistant at the Urban Archaeological Department of the City of Vienna; 2002–2003 self-employed archaeologist. Team member in several research projects. Curator at the Wien Museum since 2004; curatorial responsibilities: archaeology and urban life before 1500

Research interest

•    Settlement topography and urban development in the Vienna region with a special focus on the period between the Roman settlement and the early modern era
•    Commodities supply to the Roman settlements
•    Infrastructure development
•    Transport and trade
•    Material culture of the Roman era
•    Archaeometry
•    Research and collection history

Collection Responsibilities

•    Soil finds: Prehistory and early history (6000 B.C. to 15 B.C.); Roman period (1st to 5th century A.D.)
•    Migration period (5th to 8th century A.D.); Middle Ages and modern times (9th to 20th century)
•    Stone monuments in the Lapidarium guilds and numismatics (interim)
