The Ottoman Siege of Vienna in 1683 left a powerful mark on the Wien Museum, with a collection of objects long displayed as "war loot." Recent research has revealed a far more complex and interesting story, showing that many of the objects under question actually originated in the 18th and 19th centuries. This tour reinterprets the collection as evidence of long-standing cultural exchange. Paying attention to the art of calligraphy as well as the meanings of smell and touch in the Islamic world, it opens up the fascinating history of Islam in Vienna.
