Wien Museum
Grades 1-6
It is almost 350 years since Vienna was besieged by the Ottoman army. Vienna is full of monuments that remind us of this event. Images of the triumph shape the city and its inhabitants to this day. But who benefits from and who is damaged by these countless memories? And who has no monument and, hence, no place in the narrative of the city?
In this workshop, we take a critical view of Vienna’s monuments. We discuss what a monument is and why they are erected. Following a tour of the museum in which there are plenty of opportunities for discussion, the pupils create a joint work. They consider what is important to them and how they could recognize this in the form of a monument.
