How is history written?

Wien Museum

1040 Vienna, Karlsplatz 8

Grades 7–12

The Wien Museum tells the story of Vienna. But is there just this one story? The past can be addressed and interpreted from a wide range of perspectives. What we are told and what we are not told depends on the many different factors that influence how history is written.

The pupils investigate the exhibits in small groups, learning how to deal with original objects as source material. They recognize that we can consider the same historical event in very different ways and draw a variety of conclusions, but that there will always be imperfections and room for interpretation.
