Beethoven Museum

The Beethoven Museum in Heiligenstadt draws on the latest scholarship to shed new light on the life and works of the classical composer. The site is directly linked to Beethoven’s destiny, for it was here that he sought to cure, or at least alleviate, his hearing disorder. In 1802, the house in Probusgasse was also where he wrote the “Heiligenstädter Testament”. This is the letter to his brother that Beethoven never sent, in which he expresses his despair over his worsening deafness.
