The renovation and expansion of the Wien Museum Karlsplatz provides a unique opportunity to send the most precious and important objects, which are normally shown in the permanent exhibition, on tour together.
In 2019 – on the occasion of 150 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Austria – a major exhibition of the Wien Museum will take place in Tokyo and Osaka.
"Vienna on the Path to Modernism" comprises around 450 objects and shows the art and development history of the city of Vienna including structural, social and political changes from the late 18th to the turn of the 20th century. Highlights include works by Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele as well as works by the Wiener Werkstätte.
The exhibitions are realized in cooperation with Decorative Arts Consult from Vienna and the Japanese media group The Yomiuri Shimbun.
