The omnipresent attraction emanating from artistic work is woven into a complex politics of viewing, accompanied by a considerable temptation / danger of losing oneself in the objects. The transition from bait to the baited is fluid. But what constitutes this attraction of supposedly beautiful things, and what potentiality does it hold in the exhibition context or for the reception of topics oriented to daily politics? Does an art production oriented towards market relevant luxury objects neglect its own potential? Does it take itself and its entanglements in a social context seriously? These are the questions Thomas Hitchcock addresses in the exhibition luuuure, over whose introductory scenario the question of agency buzzes, situating itself between art production and contemplation and flowing back into its environment.

Thomas Hitchcock is a visual artist who lives and works in Vienna, with extended working visits to Lisbon and Berlin to date. Through his sculptural objects, he explores the multi-layered political implications of the involved gaze in stage-like settings. His works move at the interface between artistic work and curatorial concept.

Thomas Hitchcock, born 1989 in Bruck/Mur (AT) ,graduated in 2017 from the University of Applied Arts Vienna with Brigitte Kowanz. He also studied at ENSAPC in Paris and was part of the Independent Study Programme Maumaus in Lisbon in 2020. His last projects took place in 2020 in an interdisciplinary group exhibition format curated by him with the publication of the same name intermezzo in Lisbon and can be entered since 2018 as art in public space in the redesign of Peter Alexander Platz unscene in Grinzing, Vienna. Some of his objects have already been purchased by the Province of Styria and the collection of the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
