ARTS

The Wien Museum possesses an art collection of remarkable quality, size and diversity. The foundation for this was laid in 1894 when Prince Johann II von und zu Liechtenstein made a gift of some high-quality pictures from the Biedermeier Period. Since then the museum has been collecting art in the areas of painting, graphic arts, sculpture, architecture and applied arts, with object art, installations, photography and video art in addition.

The time span of the collection stretches from the 14th century to the present day. Particular strengths are to be found in the fields of Biedermeier (Rudolf von Alt, Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, Peter Fendi, Friedrich von Amerling) and Viennese Art around 1900 (Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Carl Moll, Richard Gerstl).
