Born in Leoben, Austria in 1966. Studied history and German language and literature at the Universities of Graz and Vienna; graduated with Magister degree 1990, doctorate 2000, Habilitation 2004. Project team member at the Department of History of the University of Graz, contemporary history unit, 1991–1998; 1998 Junior Fellow at Internationales Forschungszentrum Kulturwissenschaften (International Research Center for Cultural Studies, IFK); 1998–2001 lectureships at universities in Yerevan (Armenia), Tbilisi (Georgia), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) and Tashkent (Uzbekistan); 2001–2004 project work at the archive of the Vienna University of Technology; 2004 Visiting Fellow at Harvard University.
Curator at Wien Museum since 2005. Curatorial responsibilities: world of work, leisure culture, sports, history of the media (post-1918).
Main research interests: urban, media and film history, 19th to 21st century.
